The court’s orders reinstalling Abok Ayuba as Speaker of the Plateau State Legislature have been served on the Clerk of the Plateau State House of Assembly and the Plateau State Commissioner of Police.
The Clerk and the CP were served with the order of court on Monday, according to Chuwang Paul, counsel for the claimants in the case, Gwottson Fom, a member of parliament representing the Jos South State constituency, and Tyem Pirfa Jinfa, a member of parliament for the Langtang North North constituency.
18 months after being impeached by some House members, Judge Nafisat Lawal Musa of the State High Court sitting in Jos on Monday restored Abok Ayuba to his position as Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly.
By granting an injunction preventing the current speaker, Yakubu Sanda, from misrepresenting himself as the speaker of the Plateau state house of Assembly, Justice Musa reinstated Abok Ayuba as the body’s speaker.
The court agreed to pay the claimants the sum of 20 million naira as exemplary damages and went on to issue a subsequent order directing that the reinstated Speaker be paid all of his remuneration from October 28, 2021, through the day of the expiration of his term as speaker of the Plateau state house of Assembly.
In addition, the judgment ordered that the claimant pay N1.5 million as appearance fees in the claimant’s favor and N138,350,00 as filing fees for the lawsuit.
After the ruling, the reinstated Speaker made a brief appearance at the Plateau state house of assembly complex and said he would continue his duties as speaker without animosity.
