18 months after being impeached by a few House members, Judge Nafisat Lawal Musa of the State High Court in Jos on Monday restored Abok Ayuba to his position as Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly.
Two members of the house who were dissatisfied with the process went to court, asking for, among other things, a declaration that the Plateau State House of Assembly’s meeting on Thursday, October 28, 2021, between the hours of 6 am and 7 am was improperly conducted and in violation of Order 6 Rule of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rules 2021, making it illegal, null, and void.
Hon. Ayuba thanked his colleagues for taking a stand in favor of democracy as he presided over plenary for the first time since his impeachment on October 28, 2021.
According to Mr. Livinus Kwapfan (APC/Shendam Constituency), the APC caucus in the legislature made a decision to uphold the legislation.
A measure for a legislation creating Plateau Social Investment and Related Issues was passed on third reading during the parliament.
The goal of the bill proposed by Mr. Nanbol Daniel (PDP/Langtang North Central) is to enhance Plateau residents’ social wellbeing.
During Tuesday’s plenary, nine of the Assembly’s 24 members were present.
The plenary was postponed until Wednesday, April 5.
