On his Facebook page, former DOPRI Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu (rtd) also verified the news, writing: “I join the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men, and DOPRI staff in mourning the passing of Air Commodore Wap Maigida. a trustworthy assistant to his bosses and a sympathetic boss to his assistants.
On January 6, 2023, the departed took over as DOPRI from Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who is currently the Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos.
Coincidentally, Air Commodore Maigida relinquished command of NAF Station Jos to Air Commodore Gabkwet.
Additionally, Maigida served as an ADC for previous Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep.
The 18th DOPRI official belonged to the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. (NIPR).
Air Cdre Wapkerem Maigida, a graduate of the 42 Regular Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), was commissioned into the NAF in 1995.
The senior soldier graduated from NDA with both a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Science in Security and Strategic Studies.
From the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos, I also received a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising. The National Defense Course at the National Defence College of Nigeria and the Air War Course at the Air Force War College in Makurdi, Benue State are notable among the military classes taken by Air Cdre Maigida.
He completed both the Senior Staff Course at the Air Force Command College in Beijing, China, and the Junior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, Kaduna, Nigeria.
The senior officer also took courses at the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre in Sweden for international public affairs officers, at the Indonesian National Defence Forces Peacekeeping Centre in Indonesia for civil-military relations/cooperation, and at the Joint Information Activities Group at Royal Air Force Base, Halton in the United Kingdom for deputy spokesperson training.
Air Cdre Maigida previously served as Commander of the 551 NAF Station in Jos. The senior official held the positions of Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information and Deputy Director of Civil-Military Relations at both NAF Headquarters and Defence Headquarters, respectively.
