PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was struck down by a stray bullet shot by one of the policemen who were detailed to arrest illegal tricycle operators using their operations to cause traffic in the area on Monday.

A trader, who did not want his name in print, told our correspondent that the policemen were chasing tricycle operators when one of them opened fire and the bullet hit the victim.

The rogue cops had been detained, according to Alabo Alfred, the state police public relations officer, who confirmed the event in a statement on Monday.

The CP has ordered their arrest, he added, to make sure that the negligent patrol squad does not escape punishment. The Murder Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Jos, is presently conducting an investigation into the five cops that made up the patrol squad.
