
Nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) have been chosen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to defend the commission’s announcement of the results of the presidential election on February 25.
Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president Abubakar Mahmoud will head the commission’s legal staff, which will also include Stephen Adehi (SAN), Oluwakemi Pinheiro (SAN), Miannaya Essien (SAN), and Abdullahi Aliyu. (SAN). Along with Messrs. Garba Hassan, Musa Attah, and Patricia Obi, four additional top attorneys who work for INEC’s legal division will join the group.
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was proclaimed the victor of the presidential elections by INEC on March 1, 2023. However, some political groups have opposed this and have submitted petitionsĀ at the tribunal for the presidential election. The election tribunal’s three-person panel has received petitions from Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP contesting the results of the 2023 presidential election.
