The outbreak of Lassa virus in Bauchi state in 2023 resulted in the deaths of twenty-two people, according to the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA).
At a one-day advocacy engagement meeting with traditional and religious leaders on the topic of preventing infectious diseases on Thursday in Bauchi, BASPHCDA Chairman Rilwanu Mohammed revealed this.
Twenty-two deaths from the Lassa fever outbreak in Bauchi state in 2023 have been confirmed by the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA).
This information was provided by the BASPHCDA chairman, Rilwanu Mohammed, at a one-day advocacy engagement meeting with traditional and religious leaders on Thursday in Bauchi about the prevention of infectious diseases.
He also emphasized the importance of regularly pausing to consider how things are in communities in order to attain the goals for a healthy society.
The head of BASPHCDA reaffirmed the agency’s preparedness to work with pertinent groups and NGOs to advance primary healthcare in communities.
The meeting’s goal, according to Haruna Suleiman, Chief of Inspection, Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), was to create a healthy society.
The significance of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) cannot be overstated, according to Mr. Suleiman, “since it is the cornerstone of living because life itself revolves around cleanliness.”
However, he bemoaned the fact that individuals had subsequently stopped following the COVID-19 routine of keeping a distance from others, washing their hands, and donning a face mask, which had led to an increase in the spread of contagious diseases.
