The trial against Chrisland School in Opebi and several of its workers over the murder of Whitney Adeniran, a 12-year-old former student, will get under way today, March 30, according to the Lagos State Government.
Remember that on February 9 at the Agege stadium, the late Adeniran passed away while participating in school inter-house competitions. The state government’s examination revealed that the late Whitney died from electrocution.
In a statement last week, the state administration stated that a file had since been sent to the DPP’s office for evaluation of the duplicate case file.
A prima facie case of involuntary manslaughter and reckless and negligent acts had been established against the school, several staff members, and one of the vendors, according to the DPP’s legal advice, which was released on March 23rd, 2023. Involuntary manslaughter and reckless and negligent acts in violation of Sections 224 and 251 of the Criminal Law, Ch. C17, Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015, will be brought against them, according to the DPP.
Ademoye Adewale, Kuku Fatai, Ms. Belinda Amao, Nwatu Ugochi Victoria, and Chrisland School Ltd will all be charged before Judge Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja. Involuntary manslaughter and reckless and negligent conduct in violation of Sections 224 and 251 of the Criminal Law, C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State are the two counts on which the defendants will be tried.
On behalf of the state, the case will be prosecuted by the DPP, Dr. Babajide Martins, together with other top attorneys. Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, Yele Delano, SAN, Richard Ahonaruogho, SAN, and Kayode Enitan, SAN will represent the defendants in court.
