Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, has asserted that he has never stolen money from the state’s coffers and that he is willing to swear under oath to support his claims.
The governor threatened to expose his predecessors for stealing from the state coffers, challenging them to come out to swear as well if their hands are clean.
This was expressed by El-Rufai during a Hausa interview that was being broadcast on a local radio and television station. He also added that he is aware that there will come a day of reckoning.
El-Rufai declared that all loans obtained during his administration to support projects in the state were only used for the designated projects, adding, “The people can see that we performed those projects with the funds we got. We didn’t take the money and buy houses in Dubai or travel to Jabi Road and erect a mansion there.
“We are not like such people. I became the governor of Kaduna State with only one house located at Danja Street in Unguwan Sarki Kaduna. I’ve completed my tenure, Alhamdulillah…that is my only house. I don’t have any other house. I didn’t build a mansion. I don’t even need it.
“I did not steal anybody’s money and I am challenging those who governed Kaduna to come out and swear that they’ve never stolen money, they should swear that they’ve not taken a kobo from Kaduna State.
I’m ready to swear, Wahallah. I’m putting the former governors on the spot to appear in front of Kaduna State’s citizens and swear they’ve never taken any of their money.
He said, “We know them; they are not the offspring of Dantata, the illustrious Kano billionaire, nor are they the offspring of Dangote. We have known them since we were in school. From whence do they receive the funding to construct those homes? What was their line of work?
Yet, the governor acknowledged that his administration still had work to do while taking pride in the projects already achieved, particularly the state’s highways.
