In response to an alleged inciting comment attributed to an Islamic leader, Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, prior to the governorship election in Plateau state, a group named the Movement for the Survival of Plateau People (MOSOP) has demanded his arrest and punishment.
Solomon Bako, president of MOSOP, and Ibrahim Audu, general secretary of MOSOP, referred to the Sheikh Jingir speech as a danger to peace in Plateau state in a joint statement released in Jos.
It should be remembered that Sheikh Jingir recently called on Muslims to support Dr. Nentawe, the APC candidate, during a campaign rally for his preferred candidate for governor, saying that doing so would be a victory for Islam on the Plateau.
The Islamic leader urged on Muslims in Jos North North not to vote for the PDP candidate, Barrister CALEB MUTFWANG, identifying him as a Berom Candidate, even as he characterized the Berom ethnic nationalities and other Plateau tribes as killers in another video that has gone viral on social media.
The Plateau Movement for Survival Others claimed that the Islamic leader’s remarks posed a threat to the state’s peace and said that security personnel should detain and charge him.
The group also urged the state government to not throw in the towel and watch as some individuals use religion to cause trouble for the state under the guise of politics. The group maintained that the people of Plateau state cannot afford to endure the suffering and poor governance brought upon them by the APC administration in the last eight years, which made them clamor for change and support the PDP governorship candidate.
