Terrorists raided villages in Kankara communities, Katsina State, on Saturday, leaving no less than 23 villagers dead and a number of others hurt.
Two women and 21 men were killed, a dependable source said DAILY POST.
The thugs had previously attended one of their kingpins’ wedding festivities (Walima), known as “Mai Katifa Mutuwa,” at Majifa Village on Friday, but they remained in the area until Saturday to carry out the attack.
“On Saturday, the bandits decided to attack neighbouring villages in the vicinity rather than disperse peacefully after the wedding party. In addition to others, they assaulted Danmarke, Gidan Sale, Gidan Sarka, Gidan Jiho, and Gidan Ancho.
While the hoodlums wreaked havoc on the neighborhood, a few vigilantes made an effort to put a stop to them, but their numbers were insufficient to match their fighting prowess.
“We learned this morning that the attack claimed the lives of 23 residents. This morning, we attended some of their funeral rites.
Many people were hurt in the incident, the source claims. Since then, some of them have been sent to Kankara General Hospital, while others have gone to facilities in Katsina, the state capital.
Another local source who was unable to provide an exact figure claimed that some terrorists were killed in the brutal confrontation.
Speaking on behalf of the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the report, stating that they had information that “some bunch of bandits from Zamfara, came for celebration and then assaulted Majifa village.”
Also, Gambo stated that the police and other related security organizations are monitoring the situation and have promised to send more information as soon as it becomes available.
Communities in Katsina State’s Kankara LGA have recently experienced constant attack by terrorists.
Among these is the slaughter of approximately 100 individuals on February 2, 2023, when ‘Yan Sakai’ vigilante members encountered an ambush during the Bakori-Kankara dispute.
Remember how four women were kidnapped earlier this year on their way to church in Gidan Haruna in Kankara? Whether they have been released or not has not yet been confirmed by the police.
