Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has announced that he will not run for president again.
At a campaign rally for the governor’s race, Wike addressed his party’s supporters and predicted that after eight years in the South, power would shift to the North.
The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Bola Tinubu was proclaimed the winner of the 2023 presidential election, but his main rivals have filed a lawsuit to seek redress.
Wike insisted that it wasn’t about him but rather a question of conviction that drove him to fight for power in order to return to the South.
Not everyone who ignited a revolution will reap its rewards. I finished. It doesn’t matter that I battled it. It doesn’t matter if I become President or not.
“What matters is that the South now has power. Obviously not me. Obviously not me. It’s a question of morality.
“It moves to the North if it ends from the South. No more running for me. because it moves to the North after the South finishes in eight years. Because peace is brought about by the notion of [power rotation]. That is what promotes harmony.
In order to prevent his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, from winning the presidential election in Rivers State, Wike had fought against the national body of his party, the PDP, for running a candidate from the north.
