After the start of the new currency issues, beggars along the well-known Kano Road, Kaduna Central Market, and some elderly foreigners traveling the well-known Ahmadu Bello Way with their children have stopped asking for handouts.
When the Kaduna State Government erected a permanent residence for beggars in 2021–2022, it received complaints from many of them about being hidden from passersby who might wish to give them gifts.
They consequently departed the apartments for the Kano Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Makarfi Plaza, and other well-known locations.
However, as a result of the Federal Government’s Naira redesign program, some beggars, including some Nigerians, are no longer regularly seen soliciting handouts.
One of the beggars, Mallam Nasir Idris, told DAILY POST in Kaduna that unlike in the past, when he realized over N3,000 per day, all the customers are now requesting an account number he does not have.
“The majority of the clients I’ve helped in the past lament their financial hardship. Others who had previously given me N200 eventually demanded my account number, which I did not have. He spoke.
Isah Jibril, a beggar at Taiwo Road who moved to the permanent residence constructed for them by the state government, also revealed to Daily Post that he had not eaten for two weeks.
He claims that some kind people deliver food to them in the morning or evening.
He bemoaned the hardships of life and prayed to God to lessen them for everyone in the nation.
