During a raid by Fulani militias on Saturday night in Ungwan Wakili, Atyap Chiefdom, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, about eight people have died.
According to a source who spoke with DAILY POST, the situation was salvaged and brought under control by the quick action of security personnel.
According to the source, the unrest began on Saturday after security personnel and a Fulani man misunderstood each other at a checkpoint in Ungwan Wakili, and as a result, the Fulani man and one police officer were shot.
He claims that “the situation later worsened in the evening when a group of youngsters went fishing and were attacked, with one of them being mowed down by suspected Fulani militias with a machete.”
He claims that the presence of security personnel in the area has helped to contain the situation.
Francis Sani, the chairman of the Zangon Kataf local government council, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on four communities with the express purpose of preventing any further collapse of law and order in the region.
The following statement was made on Saturday night by Yabo Chris Ephraim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Executive Chairman: “A 24-hour curfew has been enforced with immediate effect in Ungwan Juju, Mabuhu, Ungwan Wakili, and Zangon Urban. This will enable Nigerian Army soldiers to bring about peace along that axis.
