Makinde deceived South-West PDP till last minute –Secretary

According to Ramon Owokoniran, the general secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party’s South-West Zone, members of the party in the region are upset that Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, supported Bola Tinubu, the opposition presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, during the election for president on February 25, 2023.

Owokoniran noted that Makinde’s re-election on March 18 should not be based on the results of the state’s presidential election because both party members and non-members in the zone were upset that Makinde supported the APC candidate over their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

He claimed in an interview with our correspondent that the governor led the party to believe that he was supportive of Abubakar to the very last moment.

The South-West PDP is unhappy with the news that Makinde supported a different presidential candidate to the disadvantage of our candidate, he declared. The governor consistently gave the impression that he wasn’t opposed to the nominee.

“Well, as it turned out, people are not happy, and I don’t just mean party members; I also mean non-party members; in fact, the anger is felt more by those outside the party who thought the decision shouldn’t have gone that far.

“What happened in the last election will undoubtedly have an impact on the elections for governor and the state House of Assembly, but I don’t think it should be enough for us to fail to deliver the states,” the author says.

Makinde is a member of the PDP group known as the G-5 Governors, which also includes Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia. This group argued that the party’s presidential ticket should be zoned to the south of the country.

But, Makinde had asserted that he was only in favor of fairness, justice, and equality, adding that the residents of the state had chosen to support a presidential candidate from the south of the nation.
